“Lake Afton Library’ by James Redding

James Redding began his artistic career in visual merchandising utilizing his artistic ability to create sets, scenes and windows in a retail environment. While his work fed his creative drive, he still yearned to paint, spending every waking moment away from his “day job” cultivating a more intense interest in landscape painting. His dream was to someday have  the opportunity to paint on a full time basis. In 1988 his dream was realized as his first works went into publication.

A gifted artist, without formal training, Redding dabbled in oils and other media early in his artistic career, finally finding his niche in watercolor. This is a medium that is forever challenging but which he feels is well suited to that which he wishes to convey. Never content to just create an attractive picture, the artist strives to capture and express the unique character of his subject through the creative and careful balance of composition, color, lighting and mood.

Admirers of Redding’s work delight in spending time studying his pieces, searching out treasures not immediately obvious to the eye. The intricate design of the lace on an antique doll or a fascinating array of artifacts in an antique store window are a feast for the eye.

James Redding was born in Wilmington, Delaware and has resided in historical Bucks County, Pennsylvania since 1984.
